In The Self DETERMINATOR, indisCISplinary artist and critical comedian Naya de Souza employs comedy as a political weapon to examine post-truth governance and the collapse of moral coherence in contemporary global politics. The Stand Up Lecture performance draws a parallel between the self-determination law and the timeline of the TERMINATOR movie, addressing through sharp jokes or lipsync, how political leaders, billionaires, and even minorities aligned with conservative power claim identities they do not enact, while claiming trans people are not real. The terminator happened in 2026 and instead of flying cars, we got “transgenders”, which the artist considers to be a cultural milestone in western society.
