Nervous (englische OV & koreanische OmeU) // 40. Fantasy Filmfest // Deutschlandpremiere

Nervous

When Sungsoo surprises his wife Sarah by buying a house, the move to the Korean countryside leaves her with mixed feelings. The new home feels inhospitable. A sinister old woman appears out of nowhere and frightens her. The attractive young neighbor Eynbyeol seems a little too familiar with Sungsoo, and in the attic they find a mysterious vinyl record that produces nothing but the scratch of the needle. Shortly afterward, Sarah wakes up with bleeding ears and realizes that she is gradually losing the ability to hear male voices. The doctors, however, can find no explanation.

With its precisely crafted sound design and striking imagery, Abner Pastoll’s new mystery thriller (A GOOD WOMAN IS HARD TO FIND) gets under your skin, creating an enigmatic atmosphere of menace and growing alienation. Sarah Bolger shines in her portrayal of a woman on the brink.
