Drei feministische Musikerinnen, zwar ohne Vorkenntnisse an den Instrumenten, aber mit einem radikalen Schwur: Innerhalb von drei Jahren wollen sie die kontroverseste Black-Metal-Band Norwegens sein! „Witch Club Satan“ ist geboren, ein okkultes, kompromissloses Gesamtkunstwerk, das mit unbeugsamer Haltung, musikalischer Urgewalt, rebellischen Texten und Menschenblut-Schockwellen durch die Szene jagt. 

Was für ein mitreißender Film! Regisseurin Maja Holand begleitet „Witch Club Satan“ von der Provinz auf die großen Heavy-Metal-Festivals und seziert die schmerzhafte Diskrepanz zwischen ritueller Exaltation im Scheinwerferlicht und den verletzlichen Selbstzweifeln abseits der Bühne. HEX mutet dank stimmungsvoller Inszenierung wie ein Spielfilm an, wenn beispielsweise ein Hexenprozess das Trio mit Anhänger:innen und Gegner:innen konfrontiert, und fasziniert auch jene, für die Black Metal ein schwarzes Tuch ist.

Three feminist musicians, with no prior experience playing their instruments but united by a radical vow: within three years, they want to become Norway’s most controversial black metal band! “Witch Club Satan” is born – an occult, uncompromising Gesamtkunstwerk that storms through the scene with an unyielding attitude, sheer musical force, rebellious lyrics, and shockwaves of human blood.

What an exhilarating film! Director Maja Holand follows “Witch Club Satan” from the provinces to major heavy metal festivals, dissecting the painful discrepancy between ritualistic ecstasy in the spotlight and vulnerable self-doubt away from the stage. Thanks to its atmospheric staging, HEX often feels like a narrative feature, for instance when a witch trial confronts the trio with both supporters and opponents, and it will fascinate even those for whom black metal is a complete black box.
