Die herrschaftliche Grayson-Villa bewohnt Boyd (Chris Colfer aus GLEE) mit seiner fiesen Mutter (Alice Krige), die alle Mittel in Bewegung setzt, ihn zum Zeugen von Nachwuchs zu zwingen. Schließlich gilt es, die Familiendynastie weiterzuführen. Doch der junge Mann pfeift auf Traditionen und Muttis Übergriffigkeiten sind einfach die Höhe. Als ihm jedoch bei einem spektakulär blutigen Unfall beide Hände abgetrennt werden, ist er ihr und dem ehrgeizigen Arzt, der ihm revolutionäre Neuroprothesen baut, zunächst ausgeliefert. In die Enge getrieben, mobilisiert Boyd jedoch ungeahnte Kräfte.

Glenn McQuaid inszeniert in einem opulenten irischen Anwesen eine der köstlich kaputtesten Mutter-Sohn-Beziehungen der Filmgeschichte. Bei galligem Humor verteilen sich Körperflüssigkeiten im Überfluss über die wuchtigen Gemälde und Möbel. Erinnerungen an THE ADDAMS FAMILY werden geweckt. Auch da galt: Man kann sich noch so wehren, Blut bleibt dicker als Wasser.

Boyd (Chris Colfer from GLEE) lives in the grand Grayson Manor with his vicious mother (Alice Krige), who pulls every string to force him to father an heir. After all, the family dynasty must continue. But the young man has no interest in tradition, and his mother’s overbearing ways are simply too much. When a spectacularly bloody accident leaves him without both hands, however, he initially finds himself at the mercy of his mother and the ambitious doctor who builds him revolutionary neuroprosthetics. Backed into a corner, Boyd discovers unexpected reserves of strength.

Set in a lavish Irish estate, Glenn McQuaid creates one of the most deliciously dysfunctional mother-son relationships in cinematic history. With plenty of caustic humor, bodily fluids are splashed liberally across grand paintings and furniture. Memories of THE ADDAMS FAMILY inevitably come to mind. The same rule applies here: You can fight it all you want, but blood is thicker than water.
