11 November in Cologne: breakfast, street carnival and parties

Start with breakfast together, head into the neighbourhood, or choose a club for later. Here is our plan for the start of carnival season and the events from our 11 November card.

1. Carnival breakfast at home

Our suggestion: invite friends, put on your costumes and start at your own pace. Bread rolls, cheese, scrambled eggs, fruit, coffee and Cologne carnival music make an easy breakfast. Set your own time and shopping list. This is an idea for a private gathering, not a bookable event.

2. Street carnival: three areas, one recommendation

Zülpicher Viertel

The large gathering around Zülpicher Straße. Access is controlled and can close when crowded; entry cannot be guaranteed.

Old town: Heumarkt, Alter Markt and Rheingarten

The centre of the traditional season opening. Stage areas and other enclosed zones may require tickets; distinguish them from the rest of the old town and Rheingarten. Check prices and access with the organiser.

Südstadt around Chlodwigplatz

A neighbourhood alternative to Zülpicher Viertel. Pubs have individual entry rules and programmes; no single confirmed start or finish time applies to the streets.
